Our Story

There are endless definitions to the term bridge:

  • a structure carrying a pathway or roadway over a depression or obstacle

  • a time, place, or means of connection/transition

  • a card game

  • a part of a song

  • the forward part of a boat

  • a device to rest a billiards cue on… etc.

The essential part of each of these definitions is that bridges connect one element to another. As we ride, walk, or drive around the city we see several tangible examples of those connections. We see the brick and mortar bridges that connect together, to get us where we want to go. But those aren’t the only bridges that we come across on a daily basis.

Each interaction we have with someone is a bridge, a bridge from your life to theirs. Some of those bridges are built with a purpose, some are built out of necessity, and some just naturally occur, but all of them happen. What would happen in our lives if we began to view these bridges, these relationships, with intention, with an outcome in mind?

In 1 John 4:9-10 we read that we are loved and forgiven:

"This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins."

Knowing that we are loved and forgiven allows us to bring a firm foundation into the bridges that we are building with the people around us. It changes the stories that share, the way we live, and the way we interact. Our connection to Jesus changes everything.

Our mission statement is to connect people to Jesus. We pray that God would use us as bridges, to intentionally connect people to the love and forgiveness that we are given in Christ.

In 2017, St. Michael Lutheran Church took on an endeavor to intentional connect young adults to Jesus. This ministry became the Bridge. Unfortunately, in 2020 the Bridge ministry and worship service that was created as a part of the ministry was folded.

Thankfully, in 2023 a new iteration of the Bridge started to gain traction and go through a strategic planning process. In 2024, the ministry started as a collaboration between St. Michael and Emmanuel Lutheran Church to equip young adults to lead young adult small groups, encourage times of fellowship, and help young adults to be a witness of God’s forgiveness.
